Activist spearheading citizen action on Seneca lawsuit Sept 10, 98
Grand Island contractor Rus Thompson, upset with the lingering effects of the Seneca Nation land claim against Grand Island, is taking - an active stance for citizens to plead their case to state and federal officials. Working with Supervisor. Peter McMahon, Thompson is organizing bus trips to Albany in January and _ Washington, D.C. in late February, and McMahon is contacting political representatives to meet them.
Thompson also indicated he will write to members of the TV broad- cast media (CNN, MSNBC etc.) to further increase publicity for the Grand Island cause.
Believing that the case, should it go through court system, could negatively affect the Grand Island economy for years, he feels lobbying politicos could promote a quicker resolution or at least some special economic considerations.
All Grand Island citizens interested in working on this issue and/or participating in the bus trips are asked to call Thompson at 775-7507 or write him at P.O. Box 1301.
